I read an article written by Silvia Kuzman from Reminisce Magazine, it was

about a family who was supposed to travel on the Titanic but a last minute
decision saved their lives. That decision was made by the grandfathers
writer. His name was Krist and he was supposed to travel with his son Tom
and Tanas and later he would return for his wife.
According to the writer in 1911 her grandfather Krist told his father to save
their money because they were going to America. He had heard that a war
was running throughout Europe and he knew that it was common to
conscript lads as young as 12 into the military. His grandfather feared for
the safety of his boys and felt that starting a new life in America would save
them from almost certain death in the war.
So they left Macedonia to Cherbourg in France by train in April 1912. Upon
their arrival in Cherbourg the White Star Line agent looked at the tickets and
said he knew people who were willing to pay a good price for them. So her
Grandfather agreed to sell their tickets because they could take another
ship sailing the following day.
Later when they arrived at Ellis Island in North America they were puzzled
and confused at what they saw because people was crying. They thought
that perhaps some people was being deport of they were sorry to arrive to
America.
But a last grandfather and his sons notice that their original ship had it an
iceberg and sunk a many people died on it. It was the Titanic.
She finally ends her article saying that people who purchased her
grandfather tickets probably felt very lucky to get them so closure to
departure. Nobody know if they survived because they even had tickets for
steerage class.
