Applying Boundary Element Method for Design of Marine Propeller

Abstract
Most of marine propellers produced in
Thailand are manufactured by imitating import
propellers. Due to the lack of knowledge in
hydrodynamics, this is not only why the
manufactured propellers usually have efficiency
lesser than that of the originals but also why the

manufacturers cannot create own designs. To

design the marine propeller, it is necessary to
understand the behavior of hydrodynamic
mechanism. The objective of this paper is to study
the hydrodynamic mechanism with respect to
propeller geometry via boundary element method
(BEM). The advantage of using BEM is that it can
be developed to predict cavitations and free
surface effect.
