In this article, we expand on Alejandro Zaera-Polo concept that geopolitics is the new form of the ultra-historically indeterminate genius locci to argue how globalisation and its movements of resistance, such as Frampton's critical regionalism are two sides of the coin called modernisation. In fact, the green building, one of globalisation's latest forms of dissemination, carries within itself deep self-contradictions that undermine the production of contemporary architecture and neutralise its progressive force. Using examples of renowned Portuguese Architects such as Alvaro Siza and Souto de Moura, other paths towards a more ecologically and socially balanced future can emerge when we reverse the well-known Ecological slogan: Think locally, Act Globally.
