Interview Reflection

Cindy Ann Samson is a sixth grade, middle school, English-Language Arts teacher. Mrs.
Samson became a teacher because she loves kids and also wanted to enter a profession that
would allow her to have a family. She has a Masters in Special Education and does a lot of
multitasking. I was so astonished by the fact that she was able to type a flyer while I was
interviewing her. She does a lot of scaffolding because of the experience she has with special
education. She spoke about how plans for instruction can change quickly and teachers should
have a plan B, C, D, etc. She believes in students being independent when it comes to
completing activities and handling material. She has her students write daily and take notes as a
part of the writing in her class, not just writing sentences. She uses professional development as a
means of determining what standards should be emphasized or worked. Spoke on students being
valued and actually putting forth an effort or taking a risk, having students feel safe and
welcomed. She uses both summative and formative assessments because what a student knows
or learned is sometimes different than what they can put on a piece of paper. She believes in
being prepared and consistant as an educator.
