1. The teacher should take a poll before the candy activity begins on which candy the children
think is going to be the better value. This can be done by simply taking a vote by show of hands.
The teacher should with the results on the board for record. This is done so the kids can make a
hypothesis of what they think the outcome will be. Once the activity is completed and the
children have calculated which candy is the better value based on unit price, the teacher is to take
the poll again to see how many groups got the correct answer. The new results should be written
on the board to show the difference in before the calculations and after.
2. Students are to complete the interactive game on the website:

completed after the candy, unit price, activity.

2. Why is it important to know how to calculate price and percentages of all types of items?
(Answers should include importance of balancing a check book, knowing how to
calculate bills and expenses, being able to budget a shopping trip, knowing how to budget money
on a strict income, etc.)
