Dear Professor McGriff,

This semester in your composition 1 class has been more difficult for me than I had expected. I
have never been a good writer so I knew this would be a challenge but how much of a challenge I did
not know. In High School there were not very many different essays we had to write. It was mainly just a
five paragraph essay that had to be persuasive. In your class we had to write many different types of
essays. I had to learn all new types of essays and what they were composed of. This class has taught me
how to write many different types of essays such as an APA essay and a Chicago essay. Personally the
APA essay was difficult for me I had never wrote that type of essay before so it was very different
compared to what I was used to. For my APA essay I discussed if texting was damaging people's use of
the English language. This APA essay had four main pages which is very different from just a regular five
paragraph essay. It had a title page, abstract page then the actual essay and at the very end it consisted
of a references page. Throughout writing this essay I learned how to quote authors and how to properly
format an APA essay. I have learned many things throughout this semester ranging from my grammar
use and vocabulary to quoting authors and citing them in a reference page or in a bibliography. I feel I
have gotten better about planning out my essay and my writing in general has improved.
