Palestine
The beautiful country of Palestine is where my grandparents and their ancestors came
from. I have never visited the country because it is currently under Israeli occupation, it is very
difficult to enter but as a United States citizen it would be very easy for me and my family to
enter but it would be difficult as well and it would be nearly impossible to become a citizen of
Palestine because of it being under occupation.
Sharif Hussein designed the current flag as the flag of the Arab Revolt on June, 1916.
The beautiful flag is red, black, white, and green. It has a red triangle to the left of it pointing to
the right, with black, white, and green strips. The proud Palestinian people raised it as the flag of
the Arab National movement in 1917 to symbolize peace. In 1947, the ‘Arab Ba'ath Party defined
the flag as a symbol of the liberation and unity of the Arab nation, Palestine. The Palestinian
people readopted the flag at the Palestinian conference in Gaza in 1948 by simply changing the
order of the colors, The flag was recognized by the Arab League as the flag of the Palestinian
“x
people and it differed itself from the flag of the Israeli people (Horvath).
The national anthem of Palestine was created in 1972, in advance of their 1988
declaration of independence. The anthem is called “Revolutionary” or sometimes also called
“Anthem of the Palestinian Revolution”, or “The Rebel Boy”. The anthem was written and is
sung in Arabic but the English translation oft is “My country, my country, my country, myAbualeinan2
