Informative Speech Reflection

This was one of the harder speeches that I had to write. This was the first time that I
needed to find information and research for my presentation.
My biggest mistake for this speech was that I did not put enough time into it. I typed out
my outline at the very last minute. I didnt even write the entire speech! My writers block got
the very best of me that night. My advice for anyone who has to write this speech: GIVE
YOURSELF TIME TO WRITE! If I had taken the time to really write out my speech, and wait
for inspiration to strike, my speech would not have been as dry and boring. Think about your
content and think about your audience. Make sure that you keep things interesting for your
audience, and that you find a way to relate to every single audience member.
Also, I learned that you need to rehearse your speech. Since this was a very last- minute
speech, I did not know what I was saying. My points were all over the place, and I was very
unorganized. It was difficult finding great information to add into the speech. Research is so hard
to do for an important topic; especially since my topic needed information dating back to the
1970s. Spending more time of research would definately have helped my presentation.
My powerpoint became just a digital version of my outline. DO NOT LET THAT
HAPPEN TO YOU! Make sure that your digital component has varied information. That will
help keep things interesting and keep your audience engaged. Try new things, and do not be
afraid to take risks! Thats what sets and okay presentation to an amazing presentation.
