My curriculum is for a semester Introduction to Psychology class (18 weeks).

Students will be
introduced to the five individual domains of Psychology as outlined by the American
Psychological Association National Standards. The students of this course are sophomores,
juniors, or seniors. The aim of the curriculum is to introduce students to the various areas of
study within Psychology while branching out from the pseudo/pop psychology students have
learned through mass media.
The current curriculum is heavily based on lecture and rote memorization, utilizing multiple
choice tests as the only means of evaluating student learning. Learners in the course will be
asked to go beyond the classroom and apply the course content to their world. Assessments in
this curriculum will utilize a variety of methods, including a traditional assessments, tests and
quizzes to ensure understanding of academic concepts, as well as the use of labs and project
based experiments to demonstrate learning and application in a controlled environment. The
curriculum will allow for instructor and student choice in order to fully reach each class and
students zone of proximal learning. There will be a menu of units within the domains when
appropriate. An example is within the Developmental Domain there will be the option to utilize
the Learning/Language Unit or the Life Span Development Unit. The option to approach the
domain from either unit allows the course to be tailored to student interest while still having the
curriculum guide learning.
