Ethics Performance Task
I think that the purpose of the Code of Ethics and Principles of Professional Conduct of
Education Profession of Florida is to protect both students and teachers. This is done by setting
boundaries for teachers in order to keep their personal and professional life separate. Looking
back on this semester, I think of an example of when I followed the guidelines set forth by the
Code of Ethics. I taught a social studies lesson on voting and why it is important to vote. While
teaching this lesson, I did not talk about political parties nor the candidates running for president.
I did this because I did not what to push my personal beliefs onto my students and talking about
the election would not play a role in helping students comprehend the importance of voting. I
think that if I had talked about the election that this would have opened up students to
discrimination from their peers and endangered their learning environment. This example is
connected to the Code of Ethics because by not talking about the election I did not open up the
classroom to a conversation that would have led to harassment and discrimination.
