Were Celebrating!
Girls on the Run Celebrates Its 20th Anniversary
ATLANTA Two-thousand and sixteen marks the 20th birthday for Girls
on the Run and it is celebrating 20 years of teaching girls that they are
strong, independent and beautiful. Girls on the run began in 1996 in one
school and has now moved into all 50 states.
In honor of its 20th anniversary, Girls on the Run is beginning a Born to
Run campaign. This campaign encompasses the vision of Girls on the Run
by having girls embrace all the unique things that they were born to do. The
goal is to challenge girls to think about what they were individually born to
do and to write it down and share a photo on social media using
#GOTRBorntoRun!
Following this, Girls on the Run is also celebrating serving their one
millionth girl this year. In honor of this, the One in a Million campaign is
also kicking off by asking girls what makes them unique or one in a million.
You can also share a picture of yourself answering this question on social
media with #OneInAMillion.
With all of these reasons to celebrate, Girls on the Run asks supporters
to continue giving their time and financial support to ensure that the
organization can keep serving girls for another 20 years.
Girls on the Run is a program for 3rd-8th grade girls that is focused on
teaching and encouraging positive self-esteem, self-worth and overall
healthy lifestyles. Over 10-weeks, team members train for an end of season
5k, participate in community service and grow in confidence and create
lifelong friendships.
