Elizabeth Kunz
Chief Executive Officer
Elizabeth has served as the Chief Executive Officer of Girls on the Run International since 2008.
Since taking on this position, Elizabeth has overseen substantial growth in the organization. She
presides over the organization and has been the front runner in setting a strategic direction and
not being afraid to step outside of the box. She has been a leader of change and innovation in
Girls on the Run.
Elizabeth spent the first eleven years of her career in the corporate sector. After this time,
she realized that the non-profit sector better fit her mission of being an advocate for girls and
womens issues. It has always been a goal of Elizabeths to ensure that girls know their worth
and to encourage them to be world changers. This is when she began her career at the YMCA of
Greater Charlotte.
While working at YMCA, Elizabeth met Girls on the Run founder, Molly Barker. While
getting to know Molly, Elizabeth learned about the mission of Girls on the Run of inspiring
girls to be joyful, healthy and confident, this mission matched with Elizabeths own and it was
then when she started volunteering with the organization in 2002. A year later she went on to
serve on the Board of Directors until 2005. Next, she joined the Girls on the Run staff as Chief
Operating Officer from 2006-2008. Finally, she became Chief Executive Officer, where still still
currently serves.
Elizabeth attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte where she received her
bachelors degree in psychology. She later went on to receive her masters in nonprofit
organization management.
