Using techniques of experimental education, COM353 (Problems in Public
Relations) gives our team a chance to tackle organizational problems, apply
communication theories to design a campaign, and execute the campaign to address the identified organizational issues. Our team is assisting the non-profit Zimmer Childrens Museum in Los Angeles to increase their visibility and attendance. Home to award-winning programs, Zimmers programs and community resources are primarily aimed for children from age 0-6 and teach curiosity, respect and other developmental skills. Not enough people know about Zimmer and we hope that the proposal would reverse that. Initial research, including requests from Zimmers leadership, suggested that focus groups with audiences in Los Angeles to understand needs and messaging would help us inform and target relevant stakeholders, and we agree. Additionally, visiting the physical museum space allows the team to see how children use various museum features and to learn what values and motivations move their caretakers to visit. Additional interviews (research) would be conducted. Our team requests $1500 to pay air and hotel expenses (budget attached) for this visit. If the grant is awarded, Zimmer would consider additional monies or support to help execute this endeavor. Otherwise, the team is prepared to self-fund the difference. If the grant is not awarded, our campaign will be based on Zimmers anecdotal understanding of their target audiences.
