Dear Dr. Watkins:
Each year, college campuses alone throw out a total of 22 million pounds of uneaten
food, while the average college student generates 142 pounds of food waste. There are
800 million people on this earth who are malnourished and hungry. The World Wildlife
Fund aims to improve efficiency and productivity while simultaneously reducing wastes
so that those people can be fed.
In order to make a change locally, Virginia Tech has recently partnered with the World
Wildlife Fund in an effort to cut down on food waste. While starting small, WWF is
confident in its ability to initiate change globally by introducing innovative programs
aimed at reducing food waste. With WWF, the Virginia Tech Food Science and
Technology Department will conduct research, find a solution and educate members of
the community.
Would you consider donating $30 to help us achieve our mission? You can donate on our
website at www.wwf.org or you can mail your donation to our address listed above.
Today, we are looking to our peers for help in hope of a better tomorrow. You can help
WWF diminish food waste. Your support is key in solving this issue.
Thank you for your time and support.
Sincerely

Jaclyn Kincade
World Wildlife Fund Representative
