Name: Whitney Peek Grade Level: 3rd Grade Content Area: Math Standards Addressed: MGSE3.NF.1 Understand a fraction 1 as the quantity formed by 1 part when a whole is partitioned into b equal parts (unit fraction); understand a fraction as the quantity formed by a parts of size 1/ . MGSE3.NF.3 Explain equivalence of fractions through reasoning with visual fraction models. Compare fractions by reasoning about their size. Title of Online Project/Collaboration Site/Publishing Opportunity: Ask Dr. Math URL of Online Project/Collaboration Site/Publishing Opportunity: http://mathforum.org/library/drmath/sets/select/dm_add_sub_fract.html Describe how you would use the Online Project/Collaboration Site/Publishing Opportunity in your classroom: Students would go on to the website and try to solve the problems under Adding and Subtracting Fractions. They could then check to see if they solved them correctly. Students could also be required to post something on the site and or reply to another students question. What technologies would be required to implement this proposed learning activity in a classroom? Students would need individual computers to go on the website. Describe how the following features are addressed in this learning experience (note: all of them may not be addressed in the project, but most should be if you are reaching a high LoTi Level.): a. Collaboration with peers, near-peers, mentors outside their classroom and often beyond their school: Dr. Math allows students to post questions that they may be having trouble with that can be answered by anyone online, can solve problems and see the answers posted online, and can ask Dr. Math for help. Blooms Level of Critical Thinking Required (check all that apply): See http://epltt.coe.uga.edu/index.php?title=oom%27s_Taxonomy Remembering Understanding Applying Analyzing Evaluating Creating What Level of Technology Implementation best describes this learning activity and Why? By posting on the site, students are hitting loti level 4 but if they respond to each others posts, they will be at loti level 5. They will be at these levels because they are engaging in student lead learning and will be participating in a two-way collaboration in the community. They could be getting responses from their peers as well as others online. How could you implement this proposed learning experience and still comply with your districts Internet Safety and Student Privacy policies? Students could still have the learning experience by using the technology in the classroom or at school instead of at home. The computers at school could help block out any inappropriate posts that could pop up on the websites.
