Lessons Learned
During the semester I learned many things from this class. The biggest lesson I will take
away from this course is that it is extremely important to take time to yourself. At the start I
didnt think it would be so hard to sit still for ten minutes two days a week, and keep my
thoughts clear. I was wrong, I am an incredibly impatient person, and my nervous energy follow
out of me through movement, thus it was difficult to meditate.
My favorite thing that my professor said during class, was that our bodies are on
autopilot, and that we need to take time to sit still and focus on what our body needs. This was
important to me, because I dont even have to think when I am driving, Ill just get to school and
not remember the last five miles that Ive drove. Throughout the semester I gained more patience
in my personal life and my continued yoga practice, I dont get so bothered with myself when
my thoughts start to drift off.
I will continue to practice yoga, and teach other family members of the importance of just
taking five minutes to breathe and clear your mind of self-depreciating thoughts. Also I will
continue to work on breathing continuously while exercising. That was one of my biggest faults
when starting this class, during a few postures, I would find myself holding my breath. The
breathing exercising that I learned from this course have already made a positive impact on my
stress levels, and I will continue to apply them in my daily life.
I plan on continuing with my yoga practice, and possible take more yoga at SLCC.
