Aaron’s Rod
‘Stachytarpheta indica C.B. Clarke (Vahl).
aron's Rod is an annual that grows to a height of 0.3-0.9 metres
belongs to the plant family Verbenaceae. The plant exhibits
dichotomous branching and the stems grow upright with smooth and
shiny leaves. The young branches are nearly quadrangular. The
leaves are 5-10 om. long, elliptic, coarsely serrate or toothed, with no
hairs on them, The deep blue flowers are sessile or stalhiess and are
found on long, slender, glabrous spikes reaching 30 om. long. The
fruit which is 310 4 mm. long, oblong, and ribbed, spits into two when
ary,

is applied externally to cure ulcers
and used over the eyes for general
ophthalmic problems.
The infusion of the bark is used in
diarrhoea and dysentery.

cardiac problems, intestinal worms,
erysipeles, oedema and stomach
ailments.
