3D Printing

3D printing is a fun way of making 2D models come to life! 3D printers work the exact same way as a 2D
printers expect 3D printers use an extra dimension. 2D models comes out as two dimensions. 3D models
come out as 3 dimensions. 2D models are made using paper. 3D models are used for anything, but most
commonly made using plastic.

First, you start with a 3D image on your computers. The image is sent to a 3d printer, where it is
interpreted as a stack of thin slices. The slices are printed one on top of the other. When its done you
have a 3D model of your image! All steps should be completed properly in order for you to have a 3D
image.

In most 3D printers, each slice is squirted out as a thin layer of liquid. The liquid hardens
immediately, and the printing surface lowers. (The process repeats each time). Most of these printers use a
spool of plastic as their stock, or raw materials. The stock can be anything, from wax to even chocolate.

Another kind of printer starts out with a layer of powered material. Its most commonly plastic, but it
can also be metal or ceramic. A laser traces the shape of the first slice, heating the powder so it sticks
together. The printing is rolled across it and the process keeps repeating.

When its done, all the leftover powder can be used for the next job. In any printer, each layer is
paper thin. The printing process can take a while. It might take 15 minutes to print out a second button for
your shirt. If I were you I would get me a 3D printer soon. Its useful!!
