Media English (1)

Designed to improve students English capabilities using the multimedia.
English Readings in Current Affairs (1)
This course examines various essays, prose, newspaper articles, editorials, etc. about current events to increase the ability to
read and understand English and presentations and discussions are conducted to increase the ability to express.
English Grammar (1)
English Grammar 1 is the first of two semester courses of English Grammar. Students gain an understanding of the general
characteristics of English such as its genealogy and its status as an international language and learn the parts of speech,
formative characteristics, etc. in the framework of traditional English grammar.
English Writing (1)
Students raise their basic capabilities in writing English. Various basic English sentence patterns and appropriate selection of
words are learned. Students practice understanding the differences between Korean and English expressions and express them
in writing.
English Conversation (1)
This course equips students with and improves basic English conversation skills.
Readings in English Masterpieces (1)
To nurture high-level capabilities in reading English, excellent English compositions from various genres are selected to read and
understand in order to improve expression capabilities developed through presentations and discussions.
Media English (2)
This course develops students' English skills using the multimedia.
English Grammar (2)
English Grammar 2 is the sequel to English Grammar 1 and teaches the sentence structure, characteristics and use of English,
etc. within the framework of traditional English grammar. Through the two courses, students learn the general characteristics of
English and grammatical symptoms in a comprehensive and systematic manner.
English Writing (2)
This course is designed to increase basic capabilities for English writing. Students translate Korean into English; practice logical
expressions of given subjects; minimize grammatical errors; and express the same meaning with different sentence patterns.
English Conversation (2)
This course equips students with and improve basic English conversation skills.
Advanced English Writing (1)
Students acquire skills for advanced level English writing. For instance, correct use of punctuation, writing of formal documents,
and logical and clear expression of opinions are taught. The skills and styles of academic writing such as reports, essays, and
summaries are also learned.
Advanced English Conversation (1)
This is a course to enhance English conversation skills. Students participate in various conversation activities so that they will
have ample opportunities to express their thoughts in English.
Understanding the U.S.A.
This course offers an overview of the politics, society, culture, history, etc. of the U.S. and analyzes how such characteristics of
the U.S. are expressed in the language of Americans.
English Readings in Current Affairs (2)

In this course, various essays, prose, newspaper articles, editorials, etc. about current events are chosen to increase the ability
to read and understand English and presentations and discussions are conducted to enhance the ability to express.
Introduction to English Linguistics (1)
In this first part of the two semester course, the pronunciation, vocabulary, and sentence structure of English are systematically
analyzed to understand the essence of English and learn the study methodology of English linguistics. Furthermore, the
capability to apply such analysis to the study of English is nurtured.
FLEX English (1)
This course uses the content of detailed areas of FLEX as materials for lectures and practice to improve students
comprehensive and practical English skills.
Advanced English Writing (2)
Skills necessary to write advanced level English are taught. Writing skills to critically express one's subjective thoughts are
nurtured and intuition in English is cultivated to familiarize the students with functional words such as articles and prepositions.
Students learn how to write documents necessary to study overseas, business documents, and official letters so that they can
be exposed to practical writing.
Advanced English Conversation (2)
This course enhances English conversation skills. Students participate in various conversation activities in order to expose them
to ample opportunities to express themselves in English.
Readings in English Masterpieces (2)
To nurture high level capabilities in English reading, notable compositions in English from various genres are selected to read
and understand. Expression capabilities are also developed through presentations and discussions.
Understanding the U.K.
This course offers an overview of the politics, society, culture, history, etc. of Great Britain and analyzes how such
characteristics of the country are expressed in the language of Britain.
Introduction to English Linguistics (2)
The second part of the two-semester course starts with the analysis and understanding of the semantic structure of English and
teaches the main theories and concepts of the various subordinate areas of English linguistics including the learning of English,
psycholinguistics, computational linguistics, and sociolinguistics, and history of English as well as those of relevant applied
areas. As such, the understanding of English and English linguistics and their practical use is increased.
FLEX English (2)
This sequel to FLEX English 1 uses the detailed contents of FLEX as materials for lectures and practice to improve students
comprehensive and practical English skills.
English Syntax
This course deals with English syntax using the framework of rules and principles of transformational generative grammar;
analyzes the deduction from deep structure to the surface from the perspective of modern English; and develops thoughtful
insight into English syntax such as passive sentences and WH-sentences.
English Phonetics
This course teaches specific individual sounds and rhythms used in English pronunciation and their modulation in a systematic
and organized manner to introduce an objective analytical method to consider how English pronunciations are expressed
acoustic- ally. Based on such method, English sounds are analyzed in experiments using a computerized phonetic analyzer and
methods to apply the sounds in terms of English education and phonetics are taught.
English Debating (1)
This course aims to increase the fluency of English speech and improve the capacity to clearly express ones intent in English
debate. It also allows students to participate in various mock discussions to offer various opportunities to build the capacity to
debate in English.
Computer & English Linguistics
Students learn how to analyze through the computer in an objective and systematic manner and practically apply English
vocabulary, sentence structures, denotations, etc. They learn how to derive useful information from the corpus such as
dictionaries, texts, and conversations, and furthermore, explore future-oriented application methods such as English education
using the computer and automatic translation.
Practice in English Sentences
After learning the grammatical theories relating to major English syntax necessary for understanding complex sentence
structures of contemporary English, students acquire a better command of practical English through English composition

exercises and English -Korean translation.

English Phonology
Intended for systematic understanding of the pronunciations of modern American English within the framework of generative
phonology, this course enables students to analytically and clearly understand every aspect of pronunciation from that of
individual sounds, syllables, words to that of sentences. The relationship between spelling and pronunciation, accent, inflection,
and rhythm are also part of the course.
English Semantics
The connotative symptoms of English are introduced and studied that are handled in English semantics and pragmatics. Specific
words are suggested that are related to various meanings in English to increase understanding of such and students' English
communication capabilities. Students are also taught how to identify and analyze the connotative symptoms of English.
English Debating (2)
This course increases fluency of English speech and improves the capacity to clearly express one's intent in English debate. It
also allows students to participate in various mock discussions to offer them diverse opportunities to enhance the capacity to
debate in English.
Advanced English Debating (1)
This course is intended to bolster the capability to clearly and effectively express their intent in English debate. It also allows
students to participate in various mock discussion to offer them diverse opportunities to enhance the capacity to debate in
English.
English Linguistics & English Education
Scientific theories necessary to teach English courses at schools are taught from the perspective of English linguistics by
analyzing various themes relevant to education and learning of English courses, language, society and culture.
English and Society
This course sheds light on the various aspects of the relationship between society and language and enhances the
understanding of socio-cultural characteristics of English.
Research Methods in English Linguistics
This course teaches research methods for writing of theses such as selecting a specific theme in English linguistics; searching
for and analyzing relevant literature; and systematically expressing one's thoughts as well as methods of presenting theses.
Advanced English Debating (2)
This course refines students' capabilities to clearly and effectively express their intent in English debate. It also allows students
to participate in various mock discussion to offer them diverse opportunities to enhance the capacity to debate fluently in
English.
English Linguistics & English Teaching Methods
This course introduces the changes and trends in the history of general teaching methods in English education and teaches the
methods of teaching and guidance necessary to efficiently teach English in various learning and teaching situations.
History of English
This course offers an overview of the transition process of the pronunciation, vocabulary, semantics, and syntax of English from
ancient, medical, to current times to increase the understanding of English.
English and Culture
By defining the relationship between English and culture and learning how various linguistic elements are expressed in the
cultures of the English-speaking world, students learn about communication among different cultures and their linguistic
differences.
