TEKS and ELPS
TEKS 6.B.3.E. ELPS A.1.B.
Lesson
Create a poem that includes different vocabulary that is involved in the multiplying of
integers, fractions, and decimals.
They will be given examples of what a poem usually looks like and then as a class will
create a short math related poem, and finally they will have a brief overview of all that
they have learned about multiplying different rational numbers. Using the rules involved
they will write out short poems that they will present to each other in small groups. As a
group they will help each other if the rule may have been stated wrong, or if the poem
sounded off. They will keep moving around to different groups sharing their own poems
and listening to others, helping them with both reading fluency as well as understanding
the rules associated with the content. This activity will be over several days to give them
time to learn everything, create their poems, and then have them share.
Example Poem
Multiplying fractions sure can be fun;
But first you must remember what must be done;
You first take the numerators times them only,
Then take the denominators and multiply them slowly.
Now you can see if your new number is bigger or smaller,
You just have to find the common denominator.
