Media Pitch to Susan Serbin at the Delaware County Daily Times (education reporter):

Our Lady of Angels Regional Catholic School

Begins A Brand New STREAM Academy and Summer Camps
Filling an Educational Void in Delaware County, PA

Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics are a major focus in our nations
schools, even encouraged from President Obama, as we try and prepare our young people for the
future. Currently, no Delaware County public or private school has a program dedicated to
enhancing our childrens knowledge of these concepts while Chester and Philadelphia Counties
do.
That was until Miss Nancy Perone spearheaded a project in conjunction with Penn State
University, Neumann University, and Boeing to bring the students of Our Lady of Angels
Regional Catholic School and the surrounding public schools The OLARCS STREAM
Academy and Summer Camps. As a teacher in an Archdiocese of Philadelphia Catholic School,
she wanted to continue the legacy of academic excellence through Science, Technology,
Religion, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. She felt it necessary as many of her students are
from underperforming public school districts and didnt want them to feel as if they didnt have
the same resources at their disposal as many of the more affluent schools in other districts.
The nine different weekly summer camps, which are open to all Delaware County children ages
six to fourteen, will take place on the OLARCS campus between the months of June and August.
Registration begins next month in preparation for the summer season. Grants will be made
available through Boeing. OLARCS Students will automatically be enrolled into their exclusive
STREAM Academy next September. STREAM labs will be incorporated into their already
rigorous curriculum. Seventh and Eighth grade students with an interest in a specific aspect of
STREAM will be able to select an educational path similar to that of a college major, while still
completing all state academic requirements.
Principal Andrew DAngelo and Technology Coordinator Miss Nancy Perone, are available for
interviews. Please contact the school secretary, Mrs. Maureen Squadrito, for more information at
(610)-543-8350.
