CONDOLENCE MESSAGE

We regret to announce with profound grief, the sad demise of Dr. A Ramakrishna, former Deputy
Managing Director & President (Operations) and Member of the Board, on 20th Aug 2013, in Hyderabad.
AR, joined L&T in January 1962 immediately after completing B. Tech. (Civil) from Andhra University &
M. Sc. (Structural Engineering) from College of Engineering, Guindy. During 42 years long service and till
his retirement on 31st Dec 2004, he held many responsible positions. AR is remembered as a charismatic
personality from the beginning of his career and as visionary leader in later years of his career.
For first 15 years he worked in the Design Department (now called EDRC) of ECC Division after which he
moved to operations in 1977 when he was appointed as Chief Engineer (Civil). He was chosen to lead the
ECC Division of L&T in 1991 when he became Vice President (Operations).
AR was inducted into the Board of L&T in 1992 and was designated as President (Operations) of ECC
Construction Division in 1995. He was elevated to the position of Deputy Managing Director of L&T in
March 2000. He also served as a Director on several Boards including L&T Infocity Limited, The Dhamra
Port Company Limited, Bangalore International Airport Limited, L&T (Oman) LLC, Larsen & Toubro (Saudi
Arabia) LLC.
Under his leadership for 13 years, ECC Division diversified into many new lines of business like building
air strips, water supply projects, and turnkey hospitals. New construction methods were introduced in
formworks, pre-stressed & precast concrete. There was growth in all business parameters as well. Sales
grew manifolds, as did order inflows & profits. He groomed & mentored many young leaders.
He was seen as a humane leader in ECC with pleasing demeanor, optimism, & vision. Prayas Trust, the
social & charitable endeavor of spouses of L&T-ites, was his brain-child and he was associated with Sri
Sathya Sai Central Trust. AR was seen as a national level expert in Construction Industry outside of L&T.
Honorary Doctor of Science degree were conferred on him by Andhra University in 1997 and Doctor of
Philosophy by Jawaharlal Nehru Technical University in 2004. In personal life he was a deeply religious
man.
We pray to God that his soul may rest in peace and be granted eternal bliss.
