Literacy Autobiography: Writers Reflection

Composing my first assignment in for this portfolio, Literacy Autobiography, was a long
process that included help from my peers and my professor. The final copy took me about three
complete redoes almost from scratch. My peers gave me very helpful advice and pointed out
specific points in my essay that were unclear; I eventually ended up taking out the entire areas
they pointed out and replaced them with much clearer and more insightful paragraphs. For my
first draft of this autobiography, I did not have a firm understanding of the topic and what a
literacy autobiography is. I ended up throwing away most of that draft except for a few lines that
eventually turned into the base of my next draft. My second draft was much easier to write now
that I understood what the prompt was. Creating sentences and paragraphs of meaning become
much simpler for me to come up with and I enjoyed writing the paper this time around. I feel that
writing this essay helped me understand more about the way I learn and actually how great of
important literacy is in my life.
