‘The nursing curriculum at WSSU consists of the General Education Core requirements for
WSSU, nursing pre-requisites and the nursing courses. Students applying to the nursing
program should have completed or be in the process of completing the General Education
Core and pre-requisites.
I. General Education Core Requirements
Learning Outcomes Two courses must be writing intensive--Written
Communication); three courses must have Critical Thinking: two courses with a
primary focus on Scientific Literacy; two courses with a primary focus on Quantitative
Literacy; one course with a primary focus on Critical Reading, Oral Communication
and Information Literacy.
Areas of Knowledge (1 course for each area): Literature; History; Social/Behavioral Science;
Natural Science; Mathematics and Quantitative Logic, Fine Arts and Foreign Language and
Culture,
Curriculum Themes (1 course from 2 of the 6 themes): Sustainability; Healthful Living; Ethical
and Moral Reasoning; Civic Knowledge; Globalization and Diversity.
II, General Education Core Requirements for Transfer Students
‘Transfer students must have at least 60 hours outside of the major and must include at least one
course.in each of the seven Areas of Knowledge. The nursing pre-requisite courses can count in
the 60 hour of courses outside of the major
III General Education Core Requirements for Second Degree Students
‘Students with a bachelor degree or AA/AS from aNC community college will receive credit for
the General Education Core, Second degree students will need to take nursing pre-requisites.

during the freshman/sophomore years in order to progress into the Upper Division of Nursing in

Priority admission will be given to students with a grade of C or better in required life or physical
science courses on the first attempt. A student who receives a failing grade in a required life of
physical science course may be denied admission.

+ Cumulative GPA 2.6
+ Completion of the general education core and support courses requirements
Application to the Upper Division of Nursing
Students submit the Application to Upper Division by January/3il[eachryear, to begin program the
‘Summer Session I. Most applicants will be enrolled in NUR 2313 and completing any other pre-
requisites or General Education courses at the time the application is submitted, Acceptance and
progression is contingent upon students being successful in the enrolled courses.
Applications to the Accelerated BSN Options are submitted August I-September I each year for
the following January start date. a
