The Technological Influence on Beh
Technology has shaped my literacy narrative in such astronomical ways. I was born in
1998 so technological innovation was really at a takeoff point I would say. The more computers
would sell the more it became a household product. The earliest point I could remember we
would have a computer in the house with Windows98 operating system. However, that computer
did not really help shape my literacy narrative, as much it was still important. The real take off
that help shape my literacy narrative would be during middle school where we bought a brand
new computer and on that computer contained all of the Microsoft programs such as Word and
PowerPoint. In addition, the innovation of the internet and faster internet speed made it much
easier for me to look up the definition and pronunciation of words. I could expand my
vocabulary much easier than looking at a dictionary as I did in elementary school. The
innovation of the mobile phone started and I got my first smart phone in middle school.
However, being honest I think that texting and social media websites made my writing ability
worse. In general people text in shortened and quite lazy forms such as you becoming u and
different lingo that would develop out of it. For example when we were discussing in class and
someone said "take the L" when referring to a bad grade, it isn't proper English but it somehow
became a word with proper meaning behind it. None the less technology has mostly benefitted
my literacy narrative and improved it immensely.
