Taiwan
The country that I chose to research is Taiwan where my mother originally came from.
The flag became official on October 28, 1928. The flags colors are red, white, and blue. It
contains a blue square with a white star in it and the color red surrounds it. The star contains
twelve points that resembles the twenty-four hour period throughout the day meaning that each
point is two hours and it resembles each month of the year. Each color also has a meaning with
blue means democracy, justice, and freedom red symbolizes fraternity, sacrifice, and nationalism,
and white represents equality and the Han Chinese people (History of Taiwan Flag).
The Kuomintang party, which was the party that pushed out of mainland China by the
communist party, originally created the song. The song began as the political party official song
but it eventually developed into the national anthem of Taiwan. The song declares that the Three
Principles of the People is what Taiwan should be based on (National Anthem). The Three
Principles of the People is a political ideology that San Min Chu I developed. The philosophy
states that there are three main points that Taiwan should follow, which are nationalism,
socialism, and democracy. Those ideologies are what created the divide from the communist
party that believes that people should be governed a different way (Encyclopedia Britannica).
If I wanted to become a citizen in Taiwan, I would have to renounce the previous
citizenship that I have in the United States. Though Taiwan does allow dual citizenship, it only

pertains to the already current citizens of Taiwan that are seeking citizenship elsewhere
(American Institute in Taiwan).
