Praxis Core Exam Analysis
The Praxis Core Exam is a required exam for all students striving to begin a career as an
educator. It is used to measure academic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics. It is
essential that students pass this exam before they begin to take any education courses at UNLV,
NSC, or UNR; one should not begin their bachelor level education or any education program
without having passed this exam. In the state of Nevada, the passing scores for the Praxis Core
Exam are 150 in mathematics, 156 in reading, and 162 in writing. If a student does not pass one
or more subjects, they are allowed to retake the exam; however, they would only be retaking the
sections they did not pass. There is no limit to how many times you can retest. Passing the Praxis
Core Exam is essential to those who want to pursue a career in education.
There are many practice tests available to help prepare students for this exam. It is very
much encouraged to prepare yourself before you begin to test. Before I began my practice tests, I
read over some important information about the exam. What does the Praxis Core Exam
consisted of? Is it a timed exam? Whats the best way to prepare? Etc. Then, I went to the
mometrix.com website, and watched the review videos. I also took the free praxis prep core
practice tests. I didnt have much time to study because of the timeframe in which my
assignment was due, but I am glad I had resources to help with basic review.
My results for the Praxis Core practice exam were very disappointing because I expected
to get higher scores. This tells me that I am not ready to take the Praxis Core Exam. My results
for the practice test are 53% in math, 45% in reading, and 75% in writing. This indicates that I
need improvement in math, and reading, and I am borderline to passing in writing. I am not
content with these scores because they are not passing scores.

To prepare myself for the official Core exam, I will read all of the study guides offered,
complete and pass all of the practice tests, and study until I feel I am ready to take the exam. I
will also use other resources such as the ED Ready for math website, and I will register myself
for Praxis Core Review courses at CSN. If needed, I will also purchase books, or work with a
tutor just to make sure I have what it takes to pass this exam. I will prove that I have the skills
and knowledge needed to become a teacher.
