Tonia Hamilton 12/7/16 Academic Success Reflection Paper 1 I attended the Does Bae respect your boundaries event. It was a very interesting event, as it pointed out the different issues that are common in young adult relationships today. It tackled domestic abuse, forced sex, manipulation, and controlling relationships. There were a few things that I liked about it. It gave interesting points, gave illustrations and demonstrations, and allowed input from the audience. It was filled with facts and information, and had a group of adults that had some experience in these situations and therefore could properly conduct the presentations. There were some things, however, that I didnt agree with. Many of the demonstrations were incredibly biased, as they often had the male as the perpetrator and the female as the victim, although there are many cases and studies that show that just as many males are victims of boundary violations. They also encouraged females to come forward and take control of their situation if put in one of those circumstances, but it was never said to the males, even though it is proven that many males feel more compelled to stay silent about being in such situations because of societal standards.
Overall, it was a good presentation. Aside from the bias, there were many good points that were brought up and it was very encouraging for domestic abuse victims.
