music comes from the West Coast of the United States, with much of its influence spilling out to the rest of the country, and the world. Much of the West Coast Hip Hop sound originated with rap groups such as NWA, Cypress Hill, and The Pharcyde. The West Coast sound has seen many other artists since and is now led and influenced by the sounds of DJ Mustard, Kendrick Lamar, and Schoolboy Q; just to name a few. The purpose of West Coast Hip Hop does not differ much from Hip Hop music overall. The genre is used to give perspectives of how life was for many artists. One of the most iconic and polarized examples of this was NWAs Fuck Tha Police. Artist have also used their music to entertain their audience. As West Coast Hip Hop has evolved, its audience has expanded from a African American majority demographic to people of all races all over the world.
