The Progressives attempted to change humanity by publishing articles and
photographs that revealed evils in society. Most of these progressives that called for reform and better circumstances were black activists. The most vocal Progressive was Booker T. Washington, on September 18, 1895, he made a speech giving his enthusiastic advice learn a trade to black citizens. He felt he could help black people to succeed. That was why he accepted to open the Tuskegee Institute in 1881, it was founded to train teachers and teaches poor black trades. Many sponsors from around began to contribute money to support black schools. The Black Protest Movement Not all African Americans believed in Washingtons way to gain equality. W.E.B. Du Bois wanted a better life for Africans as well but thought it could be brought along differently. He and his intellectuals were determined to create an organization, the group incorporated as the Niagara Movement.
