Dear Dr. Bruce,
My primary goal upon entering this class was to enhance my writing
style so I could be more effective in communication. I have improved my
proficiency in this way by mastering the six student learning outcomes
(SLOs) you have provided. Multiple assignments were given throughout the
semester to help us advance towards the mastery of the SLOs. My portfolio
has been compiled of my resume and two excerpts from our group charter to
provide evidence of my expertise in the SLOs.
As the main document of evidence, I chose to include my resume. This
covers several of the SLOs, including rhetorical focus, persuasion,
organization, and language and design. Rhetorical focus is exemplified
throughout this selection in a formal, persuasive manner. It shows purpose
and has an audience. The resume displays the SLO of persuasion by the
information that was carefully selected and synthesized to be the most
influential when applying for a manager position. Train and manage new
serving staff is an example of formal and persuasive writing for the
management position. This detailed information is specifically placed to be
the most communicative and clear for the audience, which demonstrates the
SLO of organization. Headings, bullet points, and chunking are examples of
how its organized as well. Language and design is the last SLO the resume
fulfills. Although it does not use full sentences, its language is concise and
without bias like Organize employee cook-offs. This cover letter, however,
shows an unbiased and informal writing using full sentences.
Two excerpts from the group charter were my second pick for evidence
of SLO expertise. Two sources are cited in text and in a bibliography,
exhibiting the SLO of ethical citation. Collaboration is the final SLO you
provided for us to master. The group charter is one of the strongest pieces of
evidence for collaboration from the assignments this semester. It was worked
on in class and out of class by all group members in a cohesive manner.
Together, we created an organized and successful project outline.
I feel I have provided sufficient evidence of my SLO expertise through
these documents. The practice of the six skills has developed my writing
throughout the semester and will continue to be influential during my
professional career. I hope you find my portfolio as indicative of mastery as I
have.

Sincerely,
Bree Mokede
