Shitty first Drafts
I do agree with Santag and Lamott that writing is a unique process. I agree with Lamott
when he says that it is necessary to write a shitty first draft to get all your ideas down on paper. I
concur with Lamont but when I begin to write a paper I dont try to write a shitty draft like
Lamont, I try to jump the whole writing process and I try to write a final draft and that is where I
am mistaken. Although sometimes I try to write my first draft as if it were to be my final, I often
must read, rewrite and repeat like Santag suggest. Regularly it does take the get it down, fix it
up, and the dental draft like Lamott suggests but it doesnt always end there, the writing process
ends when the writer feels that what is on paper is what he or she meant to say. I agree with both
writers that writing is a long process. Lamott says that she is comfortable with writing shitty first
drafts, but in my case I dont feel that I would be comfortable with that process of writing
because have always tried to write a good first draft. Maybe I have been writing shitty first drafts
this whole time and I dont realize how bad they are. I feel that Lamott is right about the writing
process and maybe I will also get comfortable with it once I practice with it.
