I would like to address the posting for the open LAT position. I think that as a dedicated animal
caretaker who has been willing to go above and beyond my listed duties, that I am a prime
candidate for this position. As the new LAT I will make great strides in helping this laboratory
further their research for the greater good.
As we all prepared for Jalissa to leave our facility it was made clear that her position would be
a big one to fill. However, I am confident that I am the person to take over where she left off. I
worked closely with the technicians over the last year absorbing and utilizing learned skills. I
stayed to observe operations after clocking out to learn as much as possible. I have received
praise from multiple individual PIs in my attentiveness to further their protocols successfully.
With my training in animal medicine, I am more apt to recognizing illness and other behavior
early on rather than having it go long term and altering research outcomes. My willingness to
speak with the individual lab managers about concerns with caging, breeding, feed, and
expected illness within their colonies has made me a trusted confidant between the Laboratory
Animal Services department and the research investigators.
This past July I was nominated to be the ambassador for our facility at the ALAT convention. I
represented our facility with grace and ambition. I made sure to network with researchers and
encouraged them to consider our facility for future work. My willingness to promote our facility
resulted in two new protocols being added to our revenue. I know that this position will need to
be filled quickly with little to no back up in training. I have prepared myself to step into this role
confidently and quickly. My reputation among not only my coworkers but also with
management will help to bridge perceived gaps in communication between the two groups.
