The reason I chose this theme is because, for me, Koros adherence to the traditions was the highlight of

the movie. In my opinion, the entire plot was built on it, something I immediately wanted to replicate.
If you look closely at the whale, you can see that it is also made out of four words: repeated multiple
times traditions, change, culture, and heritage.
I chose blue as my main colour because it is the colour of the ocean. But it is not as simple as that. In the
Whale Rider, Pai says that their ancestor, Paikea, came from across the ocean on the back of a whale.
The tribe respects the ocean, because without it, they would still be in Hawaiki.
The quote I chose also represents change. My interpretation of the quote is that Koro is faced with Pai,
who is adamant to change the fact that there cannot be a female chief. Koro has only ever known rules
and tradition. He doesnt know what to do. So he prays to the wise leader to beg forgiveness for his
indecision and helplessness. The flight in the quote is change. I think that the quote means that Koro is
a baby new to change. So in this regard, this quote contributes to my overall image.
