Dear Capstone Experience Advisory Board:
I am a senior at John Motley Morehead High School. Inside and outside of school Im a very
driven person and when something catches my attention, I just have to do significant research to
answer all the questions that are running through my mind. This year for english four honors we
are required to undertake a senior project in order to graduate. I have chosen to do my project on
Alzheimer's Disease, more specifically what contributes to it and what effects it has on a older
people. I am interested in going into the medical field once I graduate and that is what motivated
me to pick the topic I did.
I plan to study some of the factors contributing to Alzheimer's Disease, such as what the different
stages are, and how both the mind and body are affected by this very known disease. It is said to
be caused by atrophy of parts of the brain, but what triggers this phenomenon is still unknown.
This will be a challenge for me throughout the project.
My Uncle, Mr. Paul Goodlet, is a nurse practitioner and is specialized in geriatric care. He
already has a lot of knowledge about Alzheimers Disease. He is educating me on the topic not
only through research but through experience with patients as well. I am going to start observing
him at his job. I plan on going every saturday morning to his job. I will get the opportunity to see
what my uncle job consist of, along with performing patient assessments which consists of vitals,
mental status, and a physical assessment. Healthcare, catered living, where I will be helping in.
Healthcare consists of patients that are in the early stages of Alzheimers and vista contains
patients that are in the last stages of the disease. It will be interesting to see how the disease
progresses in present time with me there.
I understand there is a honor code and that plagiarism is not accepted throughout the whole
school. I also understand that if I break the honor code or go against the academic ethics there
will be consequences, and those consequences could consist of being not able to graduate or
suspension. I also know that If a person doesn't have good ethics, then you can't trust them and
some people cant live with it.
