INTRODUCTION

The theory of argumentation, or argumentation, is the interdisciplinary study of the

way in which conclusions are obtained through logic, that is, through premises. It
includes the art and science of civil debate, dialogue, conversation and persuasion.
It studies the rules of inference, logic and procedural rules, both in the real world
and in artificial systems.
The theory of argumentation includes debate and negotiation, which are aimed at
reaching acceptable mutual conclusions. It also includes the eristic dialogue, a
branch of social debate in which the main motivation is the victory over an
opponent. This art and science is often the means by which some people protect
their beliefs or their own interests in a rational dialogue, in simple colloquies or
during the process of argumentation or defense of ideas.
Argumentation is used in trials to prove and / or refute the validity of certain types
of evidence. Students of argumentation study the post hoc rationalizations by
which an individual can justify decisions that could originally have been made in an
irrational way.
