Final Project reflection
I decided to research and present Lupe Valdezs story because it is very
inspiring given how she made it to the top against all the odds. And how her story is
especially encouraging to Hispanic young people. While thinking of someone whos
life story ties in with humanities, Lupes story was the first that popped in my
ahead. I first learned about Lupes story in 2010 when I was doing police youth
academy. At this time she was running for her second term for Dallas county sheriff.
Lupes story taught me the struggle of Minorities and mix races during her time, the
struggle of defining once identity, and how a given cultures treatment to its people
can lead us to either have positive or negative influence on others. For example like
Lupes father who didnt want her to become a police officer because he feared she
would end up looking down upon her Hispanic people like her, which is what he was
witnessing happening around his community.
