Peer Teaching Assignment Lesson Plan

Setting: Middle school choir class. The choir has been struggling with finding a blended sound
while applying dynamics.
Objective: This lesson will be focused on teaching the students a song that will help them find
their blend and sound as an ensemble. The students will be able to apply dynamics by singing a
blended piano together with at least 80% accuracy. Students will also be able to understand how
to blend and explain what a piano dynamic is.
Materials: The students will not need any materials.
Opening Activity:
I.
Have students read the board for the words of the song in rhythm.
a. Teacher will read off the first line of words in rhythm.
b. Ask students to repeat saying words in rhythm after teacher.
c. Repeat steps 1 and 2 for the other lines of the song.
Procedure:
1. Demonstrate how the song should sound for the students.
2. Ask students to tap a steady, slow beat given by teacher with their feet/hands.
3. Play melody of Many Mumbling Mice for students to hear.
4. Have students sing back each phrase of the song on words- SLOW.
5. Have students sing the song on words together, while keeping that steady beat.
6. Ask students if they know what to listen for when blending.
7. Tell them listen to their neighbors and try to match the sound and volume theyre
producing.
8. Ask students what a piano dynamic is.
9. If they do not know, tell them piano means quiet volume/level. Demonstrate piano
dynamic if they do not understand.
10. Second time students sing the melody (they dont have to tap the tempo anymore), have
them sing it piano.
11. Repeat until students feel 80% confident in singing song and blending with a piano
dynamic to later perform the final product.
Closure/Assessment:
1. Ask students what piano means.
2. Ask students what they should listen for when trying to blend.
3. Have students perform the song on their own with a blended sound and piano dynamic.
4. Dismiss class.
