A Missouri man was a passenger in a 2005 White Freightliner when he opened the cargo door and fell out onto I-44 at 9:42 a.m. on September 19. Dan Gulley, 36, from Springfield, Missouri, was seated in the cargo area of a tractortrailer driven by Steve Kenney, 36, also from Springfield, when he opened the rear door and fell out onto the interstate eight miles West of Waynesville. Gulley had moderate injuries according to Missouri State Highway Trooper Danny Jones. He was a bum, a hitchhiker and I didnt want him in my cab, so I told him if he wanted a lift to sit in the back with the Whopper boxes, stated tractor-trailer driver Steve Kenney. Upon police arrival Gulley was transported, by ambulance, to St. Johns Hospital in Lebanon, Missouri where he was treated for his injuries. There are seatbelt laws for a reason-and are seatbelts available in the cargo section? No, stated Trooper Jones when discussing the incident. The Freightliner received minor damage. Kenney was wearing a seatbelt when the accident occurred.
