Applying for an Australia Awards Scholarship

Australia Awards Scholarships in the Philippines

Level of study

Australias international development assistance in the


Philippines helps promote prosperity, reduce poverty, and
enhance political stability.

The Australia Awards Scholarships provide citizens of the


Philippines with the opportunity to obtain a Masters Degree
at an Australian tertiary institution.

Australia Awards Scholarships are prestigious international


awards offered by the Australian Government to the next
generation of global leaders for development. Through study
and research, recipients develop the skills and knowledge to
drive change and help build enduring people-to-people links
with Australia.

Awards will be offered for commencement in 2017 within


the following allocations:

Applicants will be assessed for their professional and


personal qualities, academic competence and, most
importantly, their potential to impact on development
challenges in the Philippines.
Applications are strongly encouraged from women, people
with disability and other marginalised groups.
Priority fields of study

Targeted Category approximately 50 per cent of


awards are for partner organisations (government/nongovernment/private) with mandates that support mutual
priorities of Australia and the Philippines as reflected in
the Aid Investment Plan 2015-2019. The Facility Board
of the Philippines Australia Human Resource and
Organisational Development Facility (PAHRODF)
determines the partner organisations.
Open Category the other half of the awards are for
individuals in the public and private sectors who intend
to pursue graduate studies in the identified priority areas
of study.

Australia Awards Scholarships are offered for the minimum


period necessary for the individual to complete the
academic program specified by the Australian education
institution, including any preparatory training.

Peace and Development

Scholarship recipients will generally receive the following:

Governance

return air travel

Basic Education

a one off establishment allowance on arrival

Foreign Relations

full tuition fees

Organisation Development/Human Resource


Management and Development

contribution to living expenses

Mining and Mining-related fields.

The governments of Australia and the Philippines regularly


review these areas of study together, and adjust the
emphasis of the program. Detailed information on priority

Scholarship
supplementary academic support and
fieldwork allowancefor research students and masters
by course work which has a compulsory fieldwork
component.

Eligibility criteria
Australia Awards applicants must meet all eligibility
requirements detailed in the Australia Awards Scholarships

Specific Conditions
In addition to these basic eligibility requirements, candidates
from the Philippines must also meet the following country
specific conditions:
have been employed for at least two years
not hold another scholarship
for Government employees:
o
be supported by the organisation
o
have signed service agreement for continuing
employment as mandated by its agency.

For applicants from the Philippines Government:


Certificate of no scholarship obligation
Letter from the head of the agency endorsing the
scholarship application
Certificate of no pending case signed by the Human
Resource Manager (or relevant officer)
Clearance from the Office of the Ombudsman certifying
that the applicant has no pending criminal and/or
administrative case.
The selection process

Applications will be shortlisted after eligibility checking.

Only short-listed candidates will be contacted for


interview.

The selection process includes an interview, and


applicants will be assessed against the following
criteria:

Special conditions
Applicants are also required to submit Re-Entry Action Plans
(REAPs) prior to departure to Australia, and implement these
in their workplace/sector areas/communities upon return.
