TheGXW410xoffersaneasytomanage,featurerichIPcommunicationssolutionforanysmallbusiness
orbusinesseswithvirtualand/orbranchlocationswhowanttoleveragetheirbroadbandnetworkand/or
addnewIPTechnologytotheircurrentphonesystem.TheGrandstreamenterpriseanalogVoIPGateway
GXW410xseriesconvertsSIP/RTPIPcallstotraditionalPSTNcallsandviceversa. Therearetwo
modelstheGXW4104andGXW4108,whichfeature4or8FXOportsrespectively.Theinstallationis
thesameforeithermodel.

and then stay OFF while the new files are written. The entire process may take between 20 to 30
minutes.Thefirmwareupgradeiscompletewhenyoucanloginintothewebconfigurationpages.

A.IPPBX/SIPServerwithGXW410x
ASIPproxyserversuchasAsteriskoraSIPregistrarservercanbedeployedwiththeGXW410xseries
gateway.Inthisenvironment,theSIPserverhandlesSIPregistrationandcallcontrolandtheGXW410x
processesmediaconversionbetweenIPandPSTNcalls.
Thereare2waystoconfigureGXW410xwhenusingitwithaSIPServer:
1. WithSIPaccountsconfiguredonChannelspage.Inthiscase,theGXW410xgatewayactsas
anendpointrequestingregistrationfromtheSIPServer.UndertheChannelspageyouwillneed
tofillintheinformationlikeSIPUserID,Password,etc.Now,whencallsaremadefromanIP
phone,thecallwillberoutedtotheSIPServerwhichwillforwardittooneoftheSIPaccountson
theGXW410x,whichwillthenforwardittothePSTNline.
2. WithoutSIPaccounts. Inthiscase,yousimplyhavetoconfiguretheSIPServertoperform
forwardingoftheSIPINVITEmessagewiththeFXOdestinationnumbertothegatewaysIP
Address.TheGXW410xgatewaywillreceivethedigitsandimmediatelyforwardthemonthe
FXOlinestothedestinationPSTN.MostoftheconfigurationontheGatewayforthiscasewill
remaindefault,exceptStageMethodneedstobesetto1,andSIPServerIPAddress/DNSname
hastobefilled.

SAVINGTHECONFIGURATIONCHANGES
When changes are made, press the Update button in the Configuration Menu. The GXW410x will
displaythefollowingscreentoconfirmthatthechangeshavebeensaved.Toactivatechanges,reboot
orpowercycletheGXW410xafterallchangesaremade.
REBOOTINGFROMREMOTE
The administrator can remotely reboot the unit bypressing the Reboot button at the bottom of the
configurationmenu.Thefollowingscreenwillindicatethatrebootingisunderway.
Theusercanrelogintotheunitafterwaitingforabout30seconds.
VIDEOSURVEILLANCE
The GXW410x gateway can be used with an Analog Surveillance CCD Camera to perform video
surveillancefunction. ThisapplicationshouldbeusedinaLANenvironmentorwhenbothsideshave
publicIPaddress.
VIDEOSURVEILLANCEPROCEDURES
Gatewayside:
1. In the ADVANCED SETTING page, find the following field and change from default
settingNOtoYES,rebootthedevice.
2. ConnectananalogsurveillancecameratotheVIDEOINconnectionatthebackpanelof
theunit.

1. Download VLC from http://www.videolan.org/vlc/. This is the only player so far that
supportsRFC3984.
2. LaunchVLC.
3. GotoPreferences>Input/Codecs>Demuxers>H264,checkAdvancedoptionsinthe
bottom.TheoptionFramesperSecondwillshow.Changethatvalueto5andthensave.
4. Go to Preferences>Input/Codecs>Access modules>Real RTSP, check Advanced
optionsinthebottom.TheoptionCachingvalue(ms)willshow.Changethatvalueto1000
andthensave.Youmaychangeittoasmallervaluetoreducethedelay.
5. If the viewer is under NAT, go to Preferences>Demuxers>Access modules
>RTP/RTSP, check Advanced options in the bottom. The option Use RTP over RTSP
(TCP)willshow.Checkthatoptionbox.(GrandstreamdoesNOTrecommendthisnetwork
environment)

3. Enter the TFTP server address or URL in the Firmware Server Path field near the
bottomoftheconfigurationscreen.
4. Once the Firmware Server Path is set, update the change by clicking the Update
button.
5. Rebootorpowercycletheunit.
Iftheconfiguredupgradeserverisfoundandanewcodeimageisavailable,theGXW410xwillretrieve
thenewimagefilesbydownloadingthemintotheGXW410gatewaysSRAM. Duringthisstage,the
GXW410x gateways LED will blink until the checking/downloading process is completed. Upon
verificationofchecksum,thenewcodeimagewillbesavedintotheFlash.IfTFTPfailsforanyreason
(e.g.,TFTPserverisnotresponding,therearenocodeimagefilesavailableforupgrade,orchecksum
testfails,etc),theGXW410xgatewaywillstoptheTFTPprocessandsimplybootusingtheexistingcode
imageintheflash.
Firmwareupgradeprocessmaytakeaslongas20minutesovertheInternet,orjust20+secondsifitis
performed on a LAN. Grandstream recommends conducting firmware upgrades in a controlled LAN
environmentifpossible.
