Lesson Plan: Difference between letters and numbers
Grade: Kindergarten
Objective of Lesson:
Students will demonstrate an understanding of the difference between letters
and numbers
Students will understand numbers are for counting and letters are for
spelling/reading
Curriculum Connections:

Diverse learners: use of Smart Board, to engage students who have a hard
time concentrating. Group work, repetition, visuals.

Turn on Smart Board, ask a
group of students to come
to carpet and sit in front of
board.
Explain we are going to
use Smart Board, and
everyone will get a turn,
but we have to wait and go
one at a time.
Introduce topic by asking
students if they can help
you figure out difference
between letters and
numbers, what do we use
each for?
Once you have figured out
numbers are for counting
and letters are for reading,
ask them if they can write
a number or a letter on
Smart Board one at a time.
Then, write letter and
number at top of board
(with students help
sounding them out) and
have each one come up
and put a number/letter
into the correct group.

*as an add-on students wrote their names afterwards on the SB, which was
engaging, and furthered the learning as I asked them if their name was written in
numbers or letters. Further assessment done, some students were still struggling
with the two.
