Stanley Milgram

(1933-1984)
A social psychologist who
worked at both Harvard
and Yale University. While
at Harvard, he conducted
the small-world experiment
(the source of the six
degrees of separation
concept), and while at Yale,
he conducted the Milgram
experiment on obedience to
authority

The study was designed to have


teacher (the actual experimental
group) and learners (who were
fictional characters played by the
experimental team).
Teachers were to give learners
electric shocks of increasing degrees
for incorrect or non-answers.
