Objective
The Purpose of this memorandum is to show how I have styled my resume, cover letter,
and references to obtain a long term internship at L-3 Communication Company.
Summary
I am applying for a summer internship position as a Flight Test Engineer at the L-3
Communication Company in Ney York City. The L-3 Communication Company has
leadership products in aviation, port, maritime and cargo security as well as solutions for
mass transportation. They are looking for an Aerospace or Mechanical Engineer that can
assist in coordinating with test pilot(s), instrumentation, maintenance, engineering etc. To
be considered for the position, the candidate must be able to travel as necessary, and has a
grade point average of 2.9.
Job description
To work at L-3 Communication Company, the candidate should be able to prepare test
cards for each flight, assist with planning, coordinate, and conduct good performance, and
other duties as assigned. This company is looking for someone who has completed a
bachelor degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering with a grade point average of 2.9
or higher. The contender must be able to work overtime, any shift, and weekends as
required. She/he must be able to travel as necessary, obtain a secret security clearance, and
has experience in basic Microsoft Office software applications including Word and Excel.
Audience Analysis
L-3 Communication is a big firm that holds approximately 66,000 employees.
There were no specific audience mentioned in the posted job; therefore I assume that my
audience analysis is going to be the Human Resources department at the individual L-3
business unit.
The Executive Management of the L-3 Company are: Michael T. Strianese, the Chairman,
President and Chief Executive Officer; Curtis Brunson the Executive Vice President of
Corporate Strategy and Development; Richard A. Cody the Vice President of Washington
Operations; Ralph G. D'Ambrosio the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer; and Steven
M. Post the Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary.
Rhetorical Analysis
I am planning on focusing more on my education section with degree and GPA listed. Since
the company is looking for someone who can handles qualities, structural, and system
flight test to verify aircraft airworthiness, I will highlight the courses I took that focus on
Aerodynamics Aeronautics and flight Mechanics, and Thermodynamics. Also I will state the
basic skills that I have with Microsoft Office software applications including Microsoft
Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Solid, AutoCAD, and C++ Computer programming. I will
emphasize my undergraduate project experience on space mission about the
Characterization of the strength, variability, and physical extent of the magneto tail at the
Lagrange point (L2). For the cover letter, it will be written formally and will demonstrate
good technical writing skills. My research experience and my skills will be also summarized
in the cover letter. I will also include references.
Recommendation
I would like for you to review my resume, cover letter, and references and I would
appreciate any suggestion or advice on how to improve them.
