POMS on the 2 Khan Academy videos

1. The first video entitled Self concept, self identity, and social identity was extremely
informative as it gave basic definitions of various terms and concepts that most people
might have heard of or use in psychological studies. It was a great video that informed
me what each specific vocabulary term meant.
2. I especially enjoyed the breakdown of the mental process of formulating our social
identity (categorization, identification, comparison).
3. Never taken a psychology course, I actually found the second video quite interesting
(Eriksons psychosocial development). It was very easy to understand and easy to
connect to real life experiences. For example, I work at a daycare on campus dealing with
preschool age children (3-5 years old), so I see the crisis (initiative v. guilt) all the time.
The kids are certainly more assertive and almost always seem to engage in play without
even being told too.
4. The fifth stage (ages 12-18), as the narrator states, is probably one of the most important
rules in Eriksons personality psychosocial development theory. The transition from
childhood to adulthood is perhaps the most difficult transition in everyones life. This is
because the adolescents are being taught the responsibilities of adulthood and are
(hopefully) slowly being introduced to the real world after their basic (K-12) schooling
is done.
