Break-out Title/Topic: Plagiarism/APA format
Bridge-in
Start with a story about plagiarism in Child Psychology. Stress that
there are consequences, such as expulsion, it goes on your record, an IN
on your transcript or failing the assignment. Stress that by cheating, she
plagiarized the people who made the questions that the prof used.
Pre-Assessment:
What do you know about APA format, and Plagiarism from the sheet that
was provided by Dr. Jackson and expected to be read? Do you have any
questions?

Learning Objective:
To learn what constitutes intentional and unintentional plagiarism. Along
with how to cite in APA.

Participatory Activity:
Scrambled citations and generate the citation.
Break into four groups of three and assemble the two citations that have
been cut up.
Provide examples of intentional and unintentional plagiarism and have
them identify which it is.
If time permits, have them independently write out a citation correctly
based on the information that has been provided. Then have them
switch with a partner and check the citation for errors.
Post-Assessment:
Check the participatory activity to see that the citations have been
assembled and written correctly. Provide feedback for corrections if the
citations are wrong.
Summary:
The skill of being able identify what constitutes plagiarism is a vital one,
and one that you will use throughout your entire university career. A way
to avoid plagiarism is to cite everything properly, another skill you
learned today.
