Annotated List of Websites with

Standards-Aligned Instructional Resources


There are many resources available online regarding standards-aligned instruction.
Below is an alphabetized list of just a few websites with strategies and lessons and
information about CCSS-aligned teaching that I found and reviewed. Most are geared
toward educators, but many also have information for parents. There are lessons,
strategies, videos, articles, blogs, books, graphic organizers, and many other
educational aids on these sites. Almost all of them have links to even more resources.
Along with each link, I provide a brief description of some of what the site includes.
CalSTAT: Evidence-Based Resources and Training Priority Areas, Publications,
and Symposiums
This website has many resources based on a few key areas like
reading/literacy, multi-tiered system of supports, UDL, IDEA, etc. Each
area has its own set of resources and links to other websites, articles,
presentations, PDFs, etc. It also has T he Special EDge newsletter for
parents and educators about the topic of special education.
CCSS "Habits of Mind"
This one-page PDF is from the Orange County Department of Education.
It lists strategies for CCSS and 21st century skills that avcteacher can use
to help students succeed.
CCSS - Instructional Strategies
This website is hosted by the Oregon Department of Education. It contains
a list of strategies and their explanations to help teachers best reach their
students. Each strategy includes a Word file with a graphic organizer, set
of instructions, guiding questions, etc.
Common Core State Standards
This website is hosted by the California Department of Education. It has
links to the actual CCSS as well as links to other resources.
Edutopia: Common Core in Action: 10 Visual Literacy Strategies
This website gives as list of strategies that help students think through,
think about, and think with pictures. It incorporates CCSS with 21st
century skills.
Edutopia: Nine Strategies for Reaching All Learners in English Language Arts
This website does not specifically address CCSS, but it give strategies
that will help students master CCSS in English Language Arts.

Effective Teaching Strategies for the General Population


This website by Support Real Teachers has links for effective teaching
strategies for the general population, ELL students, classroom
management, assessments, etc.
ELA Reading Informational Text Grades K-5
This website is hosted by the Illinois State Board of Education. It is a PDF
of Common core teaching and learning strategies. Each Common Core
standard regarding reading information texts for grades K-5 is individually
listed. Then strategies and lesson suggests are given along with formative
assessment suggestions for that particular standard. The appendix is full
of graphic organizers, tables, guiding questions, checklists, etc.

Facing History: Common Core-Aligned Teaching Strategies
This website integrates strategies that promote Common Core principles
throughout [its] resources and professional development. There are
specific strategies given that follow CCSS. Writing prompts are provided
as well as some teaching units.
Writing Strategies

This PDF contains numerous strategies for teaching argumentative


writing.
Instructional Strategies List
This PDF is from the Washoe County School District website. It contains a
list of instructional strategies or approaches and an explanation for each
one and where it is applicable.
Instructional Strategies Motive and Engage Students in Deeper Learning
This website is does not address specific CCSS, but it includes many
strategies that will facilitate learning and the mastery of CCSS.
LearnZillion
This website has a content library with lessons for math and English
language arts. Within these subjects are different topics and lessons on
those topics. Each topic focuses on certain CCSS. The lessons have
videos (and additional materials that you have to sign up for).
NCTE: Resources for Student-Centered Instruction in a Time of Common Core
Standards
This website by the National Council of Teachers of English is full of
lesson plans that focus on getting students to read and write well. There
are a variety of lesson plans for all grades and ELA topics along with
strategy guides and other graphic organizers to reinforce learning.
Additional resources are included, like links to articles and information
about books to further the topic being studied.
P21: Partnership for 21st Century Learning
This website provides information about 21st century skills and how to
teach and learn them. It advocates that 21st century skills are necessary
for students to thrive now and later in life. There are many resources and
learning opportunities on this website for educators, parents, schools, the
community, and more.
P21 Common Core Toolkit
This PDF integrates 21st century skills into the CCSS. It gives the
rationale for incorporating the two together and shows how they
can combine seamlessly. It also gives several sample lesson
starters using both CCSS and 21st century skills. There are lessons
for various grades in both English language arts and mathematics.
A resources page with additional links is also provided.
Power Up: ELA Teaching Strategies
This website provides strategies based on topics, like conducting
research, context clues, drafting, resenting, etc. Each topic contains a

series of steps for the teacher to take in order to help his or her students
master the topic. There are slideshows for each topic.
Reading Rockets
This website has resources for teachers and parents all about CCSS.
Scholastic: Common Sense for Common Core
This website has information regarding CCSS for teachers, parents, and
administrators. There are lesson plans for a variety of grades and
subjects. CCSS are addressed in many of these lessons. Additional
resources are given, as well. Multiple Scholastic books are reviewed and
listed as beneficial supplemental curriculum.
Strategies for Common Core
This website has many CCSS instructional strategies for all grades and
subjects. Any given lesson includes the standard, benchmark, level of the
New Taxonomy of Learning, objectives, vocabulary, instructional
materials, interventions, assessment rubrics, additional resources, student
examples, and videos. However, if you want access to all of the strategies,
you have to sign up.
TeachThought: 50 Common Core Resources for Teachers
This website has a list of resources that range from information about
what CCSS are to ways to implement CCSS in your classroom blogs
about CCSS to articles about CCSS.
