BACKGROUND
The National Council of La Raza (NCLR)the largest national Hispanic civil rights and
advocacy organization in the United Statesworks to improve opportunities for Hispanic
Americans. Through its network of nearly 300 affiliated community-based organizations, NCLR
reaches millions of Hispanics each year in 41 states, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia.
To achieve its mission, NCLR conducts applied research, policy analysis, and advocacy,
providing a Latino perspective in five key areasassets/investments, civil rights/immigration,
education, employment and economic status, and health. In addition, it provides capacitybuilding assistance to its Affiliates who work at the state and local level to advance opportunities
for individuals and families.
Founded in 1968, NCLR is a private, nonprofit, nonpartisan, tax-exempt organization
headquartered in Washington, DC, serving all Hispanic subgroups in all regions of the country. It
has state and regional offices in Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Phoenix, and San
Antonio.
SUMMARY
The Director of Marketing is responsible for creating, planning, and implementing an integrated
marketing, communications, and outreach plan for each NCLR event. This individual is charged
with leading marketing plans and strategies while working closely with peers in the Integrated
Market and Events (IME) office, as well as the General Manager and the Director of Corporate
Relations and Resource Development. Additionally, the Director of Marketing will build strong
relationships with NCLRs key leaders, as well as leaders across NCLRs components to ensure
maximum impact for outreach and coordinated efforts to promote and market NCLR events. The
Director is sensitive to critical and political relationships that can enhance the impact and value
of NCLR events, focuses key messages around NCLR priorities, ensures that the most value is
gained by thinking strategically about audience and NCLR presence, and understands the value
of NCLRs brand. The Director should be an innovative thinker motivated by productivity and
efficiency. This position reports to the Deputy Vice President for IME.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Marketing and Community Relations
Develop an integrated and effective marketing, communications, and outreach plan for each
NCLR event.
Cultivate, develop, and/or strengthen critical community and political relationships that lead
to new marketing and promotion opportunities, take advantage of business partnership
opportunities, engage key NCLR constituencies, and add value and impact to NCLR events.
Develop key messages that communicate the value and opportunity of participation at
NCLRs events and overall engagement with NCLR.
Promote attendance to audiences that will derive the most value and offer the most impact for
having attended and participated.
Develop promotion and outreach campaigns that reach both existing and new constituencies
and audiences for NCLR.
Coordinate with NCLRs Communications Team to support and enhance media strategy as it
relates to NCLR events; leverage exposure and promotion of NCLR events through relevant
press opportunities.
Collaborate with the Sponsorships Team to identify and activate marketing opportunities
through sponsor relations, identify new sponsor opportunities that enhance NCLRs brand,
support marketing and promotion efforts, and generate revenue.
Oversee and manage all creative visual elements of NCLR events, including NCLR branding,
video modules, print (NCLR Annual Conference program book, invitations, etc.), venue
dcor, signage, collateral (premiums, etc.), website, etc., in collaboration with IME Meetings
and Logistics Team and Sponsorships Team.
Secure and ensure NCLRs reputation as a community leader and responsible partner in the
location of each NCLR event; deliver the highest level of customer service to all internal and
external customers.
Ensure that all aspects of marketing, communications, and community relations are
addressed by the Marketing and Communications teams pre-event, onsite, and post-event.
Provide event analysis and statistical reports (pre- and post-) of marketing and community
relations plans, promotion campaigns, and related efforts; report results; identify new
opportunities, challenges, and trends.
Team Leadership and Management
Lead and implement the strategic plan to market, promote, and build community
relationships around NCLR events.
Attract, recruit, develop, train, and coach high-performance IME team members,
empowering them to elevate their level of responsibility and performance.
Collaborate with the IME Meetings and Logistics Team, Sponsorships Team, and
Communications Team to maximize and leverage opportunities for media partnerships, as
well as develop messaging that communicates, supports, and enhances the NCLR value
proposition.
Ensure accurate documentation of media relationships and full utilization of resources and
opportunities available through media partnerships.

Participate and contribute to overall NCLR component program management via the Deputy
Vice President and Directors, including providing input on budget process, human resource
responsibilities, and enforcing organization policies.
Cultivate a positive working relationship with vendors and work with NCLRs Finance team
to ensure accurate and timely payment to vendors.
Maintain a solid, comprehensive understanding of NCLR and U.S. Hispanic media, culture,
community, consumer, market insights, and market trends.
Represent NCLR, IME, and/or the Deputy Vice President of IME at events and meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS

B.A. or B.S. minimum, with at least 5 years of demonstrated success in marketing and
communications (or closely related field), and at least 2 years in a managerial position in
Marketing or Communications.
Proven results in developing and implementing an innovative successful marketing and
outreach plan with an array of activities that add value, impact, visibility, and engage various
and appropriate key audiences.
Excellent communication skills resulting in cultivating high-impact relationships with
community leaders, elected officials, key NCLR constituencies, and other influencers.
Demonstrated success managing, developing, and coaching a high-performance marketing
and community relations team.
Highly analytical with the ability to integrate the activities of the various related functional
areas for seamless and streamlined execution of a strategic marketing plan.
High energy and polished diplomatic skills.
Team player, self-motivated, and able to work independently.
Familiarity with the U.S. Hispanic community, Hispanic nonprofit organizations, and the
Hispanic consumer and market.
Ability to travel and work a modified or extended-hour schedule during event planning and
event execution.
Commitment to and passion for NCLRs mission.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
