Nockers are master artisans. Their skill and inventiveness are legendary.

So are their cynicism


and bitterness. They are highly critical of their rulers and eminently sarcastic of the people around
them. Most nockers dislike having to deal with imperfect things, including people. Most prefer
to surround themselves with treasures of mechanical wonder and ingenuity, instead. Things are
much more reliable than people, and theyre much easier to fix. Nockers are also known for their
great talent for crafting chimerical inventions.
A nockers standards of perfection are impossibly high. These Kithain got their name from
their habit of rapping on things to inspect their quality. Unfortunately, they treat others the same
way. They knock others by insulting them, testing their reactions and trying to find their faults.
While this is a great way to test machines, it doesnt work as well with people. As far as nockers
are concerned, theyve elevated ridicule to a high-art form. This hardly improves their
popularity.
Aptitude: +1 to mechanical rolls. Any time a nocker attempts to create or fix a
mechanical creation, one die is added to Mental Trait rolls.
Birthright: Fix-It. Nockers are masters of machines, and everyone knows it. A few
harsh words or well-timed threats can intimidate a malfunctioning machine to work
properly. A nocker can fix nearly any mechanical device with a successful Mental roll. The
difficulty can range from 5 (for simple, familiar problems) to as high as 10 (for a complex
machine thats really acting up).
Frailty: Flaws. Nockers are cynical because theyre such perfectionists. They can always
see ways for things to work better, but they can never quite achieve their ideals. Some say this
is a curse from the First Artisan. Others claim it is a karmic debt for their attitude problem.
Regardless, anything a nocker creates has one trivial (but irreparable) flaw.
Edward Hallafey: As an only child your parents have tried to give you everything you want.
Unfortunately they never seemed to have the time to give you what you needed the most a little
of their time. As a small child, you learned to fend for yourself and you soon discovered other means
of entertaining yourself. Once, soon after undergoing your Saining, you blew out the wall of your
house with a mixture of household cleaning materials. You hadnt meant for it to go off like that in
the house, but it sure was exciting! Fortunately, your parents never discovered that you were
responsible (the explosion was blamed on a gas leak).
Your studies into chemical reactions have come a long way since then. Your current
fascination is the interactions of certain varieties of Dreamstuff. You have even discovered
certain combinations that can be quite explosive.
