The earliest scriptwriters came from ancient Greece. Aristotle wrote
Poeticus which you can get and will tell you all you need to know about
drama and scriptwriting.
Tragedy This does not mean a dominant event but a style of drama,
Comedy and satire these are interchangeable, but comedy produces
innuendos, while satire also has political messages.
Heroes are good, but flawed, they do good or think they do. The
audience relates to this, but also when characters make mistakes the
audience feels satisfied or good about their own lives peripetia.

A result of their own action it is their own fault

A reversal of fortune

Audience feels pity and fear

Lessons learnt from Greek Tragedy
People suffer/the world is unfair.
Tragedy is confronting death, mourning, shared community and tradition.
Soap Opera is the modern version of Greek Tragedy.

Initial Exposition
State of normality, family unit is established. Foreshadowing of later

The normality is upset, family unit is disrupted, a plan is formed, the
protagonist sets off on a journey.
The Inner Cave

The protagonist is at their lowest point. They are struggling to learn.
They confront their fears.
Conflict
There is a conflict to win back equilibrium. Usually the protagonist is
injured. They truly are a hero/heroine at this point.
Resolution awakening, spiritual journey
The status quo is restored. The family unit is put back together. The
audience learns from the moral.
NB Broadcast is a good newspaper for the film and television sectors
